Celebration of Life for Jan Tullis

We invite friends, family, and partners to join the DEEPS community in celebrating the life and legacy of our colleague and dear friend, Jan Tullis.

Professor Jan Tullis, a beloved member of the Brown University community, passed away suddenly on September 15, 2024. Jan was celebrated around the world as a legendary scientist, an exceptional teacher, and beloved advisor who remained engaged in mentoring and contributing to our community until just before her death. | Read more

This Google Document is a virtual card that began as an outpouring of love, support, and appreciation for Jan Tullis when she was initially hospitalized and continued after her passing as our community processed the loss of our colleague, mentor, and friend.
The Brown Daily Herald shares an in-depth remembrance of Jan Tullis and her decades of groundbreaking research and influential mentorship. Julia Grossman ’23 shared her first impressions of Jan, saying “One: this woman is incredible and she’s calling me partner. I don’t know what that means but I like it. Two: she has really strong opinions and usually they are correct. Three: I know I’m going to be taken care of here."

Events

The department hosted an evening memorial reception and special lunchtime picnic celebrating Jan’s life and legacy. Guests shared in uplifting conversation, memories, and a special community art project in honor of our colleague and dear friend.
