Departmental Undergraduate Group (GeoDUG)
The GeoDUG is an active and supportive community of Brown University undergraduate students interested in Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences.
What Is GeoDUG?
GeoDUG is an undergraduate community and resource led by students and sponsored by department faculty. We host events and promote department opportunities during the academic year to foster a connected and supportive learning environment, including ice cream socials to kick off the fall, peer-advising on course registration and concentration declaration, and field trips.
GeoDUG Statement of Purpose:
We believe in engaged learning that centers a holistic approach to opportunity and community. GeoDUG serves the purpose of supporting the undergraduate community to thrive academically and professionally through events that expose students to course options, resources, networks, and career opportunities, and socially through community-building activities.

Hi! I’m Anna, a senior from Washington, DC double-concentrating in Earth, Climate, and Biology; and Science, Technology, and Society! I’m primarily interested in the relationships between geology, ecology, environmental justice, and history. Come talk to me about independent research, fieldwork abroad, labwork, and pre-law! You can find me on the greens reading and crafting, on the water paddle-boarding, or in the mountains admiring mosses. Looking forward to seeing you at our events!
Hi! My name is Noah and I am a senior from Groton, CT concentrating in Geophysics and Physics. I am mostly interested in sedimentology and deformation, primarily focused on Block Island. My research involves mapping and field work, so I would love to hear if that is something that interests you. Outside of Geochem 109, you can catch me playing Old Time fiddle, swing dancing, and fencing.
Hello! I’m Sarah, a junior from Levittown, PA concentrating in Geochemistry and Environmental Chemistry (low temperature and paleoclimate focus). I enjoy learning about the chemical foundations behind geological and ecological processes and do research studying soils and stalagmites. Outside of academics, I work for the environment and sustainability-focused podcast Possibly and am really passionate about the importance of science communication! I also love baking, going on hikes, and listening to audiobooks and podcasts. I’d love to talk more about getting involved with research, the importance of science communication, and to share book/podcast recs!
Hi! I’m Ceci and I’m from Providence, RI. I’m a junior concentrating in Earth and Planetary Sciences and considering the Data Fluency Certificate. Hi! I’m Kevin, and I’m a junior from Modesto, CA concentrating in Earth, Climate, and Biology! I’m broadly interested in the intersection of EEPS and biology, especially through paleontology and biomechanics. Outside of academics, I’m a member of Brown Lion Dance, Brown VSA, and an avid tennis fan. Feel free to ask me about being premed in DEEPS, combining EEPS with other interests, and anything else!
Hi! My name is Ella, and I’m a junior from Barrington, RI studying Geochemistry and Environmental Chemistry. I’m particularly interested in paleoclimatology and paleooceanography. When not in the Geochem basement, you can catch me rowing on the Seekonk, making music, and exploring the great outdoors! Talk with me about wet lab research, finding on-campus employment, and graduate school preparation. See you around :)
